Bark Shark
As a young boy growing up in southeast Michigan, founder and
president of Outdoor Products Incorporated Shane DeVoe spent many hours
bowhunting for whitetails. Starting out
on the ground with a recurve, then migrating to tree stand hunting with a
compound, Shane spent the majority of his free time during archery season in
the woods. After a few unsuccessful
seasons, Shane found the freezer seemed to fill up when he had his stand
organized with all the needed accessories within easy reach and he could
minimize his movement during the hunt. Shane
preferred to hunt with his quiver off his bow but still wanted to have it close
at hand for the rare occasion when a second shot was necessary.
THE LAUNCH OF THE BARK SHARK
While screw in type quiver holders were available, they were
not easy to thread into all types of trees and were not legal for use on public
land where Shane often hunted. Also,
they only held the quiver, so the additional equipment like grunt calls,
binoculars and rangefinders that were part of the hunt were left to be dealt
with separately. After a few iterations,
Shane built a functional prototype of the current Bark Shark. Fastened to the tree with a simple cord and
cleat system, the Bark Shark held the quiver in place and contained hooks to
hang other accessories as well. With a
built in broadhead wrench, the Bark Shark was a real multi-tasker!
After several years of using the prototype, made out of wood
and drywall screws, Shane decided it was time to make the Bark Shark available
to the general bowhunting public. A
little time on the CAD station resulted in a design that could be easily
injection molded and would allow for mounting of standard quiver brackets from
many different quiver brands. Joining up
with high school friend and fellow hunter Randy Forsyth to handle sales and
marketing, the Outdoor Products Inc. Bark Shark team was born.
